Self-Raising Flour

Recipe Summary
Quick three-ingredient homemade self-raising flour blend for cakes, biscuits, and quick breads. Yields 1 cup (~130 g).

Ingredients

Ingredient Amount Notes
All-purpose flour 1 cup (~125-130 g) Standard white flour
Baking powder 1 tsp (~4-5 g) Fresh leavening agent
Salt 1/2 tsp (~3 g) Fine table salt

Instructions

  1. Measure and Sift

Set a fine-mesh sieve over a clean mixing bowl. Add the all-purpose flour (1 cup), baking powder (1 tsp), and fine salt (1/2 tsp).

  2. Sift and Whisk

Sift all three ingredients into the bowl. Whisk thoroughly with a wire whisk for 30 seconds to distribute the leavening evenly throughout the flour.

  3. Use or Store

Use immediately in place of store-bought self-raising flour, or store in a sealed airtight jar in a cool, dry pantry for up to 3 months.

Useful Notes

Even Leavening
Whisking or sifting thoroughly is essential so baked goods rise evenly without pockets of concentrated baking powder.\n
